Following the introduction of the HomeView and other smart home hardware, Apple has scheduled its third product showcase of the season. Invitations featuring the slogan Pro and Tell went out for a press and creator briefing taking place on October 28 in Los Angeles. While Apple maintains secrecy regarding upcoming announcements, industry indicators point toward major updates across the Mac and iPad product lines. If current rumors hold true, the showcase will feature a redesigned MacBook Pro lineup and a major refresh for the smaller tablet series.

MacBook Pro Updates
The headline announcement is expected to be a redesigned MacBook Pro available in 14-inch and 16-inch form factors. Reports indicate this will mark the first Mac to feature a touchscreen and an OLED display, which enables slimmer bezels and a hole-punch camera cutout incorporating a Dynamic Island. According to reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this hardware represents the most significant physical redesign for the laptop line since 2021, resulting in a thinner and lighter chassis.

Despite the physical redesign, this high-end laptop is expected to utilize existing M5 Pro and M5 Max processors rather than jumping to newer silicon. Sources suggest that users seeking a faster high-end MacBook Pro may need to wait until future hardware cycles, while Macworld notes this premium model will likely expand the existing catalog as a higher-priced tier rather than a direct replacement. Standard touchscreen-free configurations are expected to remain available for buyers seeking lower price points.

M6 Chip Expansion
While the premium laptop maintains current silicon generations, other computers in the ecosystem are slated to receive the M6 chip introduced in August. The primary candidate for this processor upgrade is the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, mirroring Apple’s strategy from the previous hardware cycle. This standard configuration will retain traditional display technology and form factors while delivering the performance improvements and power efficiency of the M6 architecture.
The desktop lineup is also positioned for an internal refresh, with the iMac expected to transition from its current M4 processor to the M6 chip. This transition brings substantial performance gains to both CPU and GPU operations alongside a dual 16-core Neural Engine designed to accelerate artificial intelligence workloads. Additionally, the desktop update may introduce new color options while keeping the exterior enclosure unchanged.
iPad Mini Upgrades
Beyond computer hardware, the tablet lineup is projected to receive significant attention during the Pro and Tell event. A new generation of the iPad mini is anticipated, bringing an OLED display to the compact tablet format for the first time. This update positions the mini as the only iPad outside the Pro tier to adopt OLED screen technology, replacing the traditional LCD panels used in current versions.
Performance within the compact tablet is expected to shift from the older A17 Pro architecture to the A20 Pro chip, addressing thermal management concerns reported by users of current models. Additional hardware refinements include narrower display borders, a repositioned front-facing camera, and the introduction of water resistance. Final confirmation of these specifications will arrive when Apple hosts the press briefing on October 28.
