IDScan Offers Free Credit Monitoring And ID Protection After Leaking Drivers Licenses
Following a recent data security incident, IDScan.net has announced that it is offering free credit monitoring and identity protection services to affected customers. The announcement follows a federal investigation into a dark web marketplace, establishing a timeline that connects the platform’s security breach to the illicit sale of identification documents.
IDScan.net stated that an unauthorized third party potentially accessed and copied customer information stored within cloud accounts. The exposed data categories included full names along with driver’s licenses and other government-issued identification numbers. Although full access to this information reportedly required payment, the platform is actively contacting potentially impacted individuals to provide complimentary protective services while cooperating with federal law enforcement.
Journalist Brian Krebs reported on his blog, KrebsonSecurity, that a dark web marketplace named Nexus was offering scans of over 153 million North American driver’s licenses. Nexus reportedly ceased operations ahead of an FBI investigation into its activities, with Krebs identifying IDScan as a possible source for the harvested documents. Media inquiries regarding a definitive connection between the security incident and the Nexus marketplace remain pending as the investigation continues.
As federal authorities examine the breach, impacted individuals are encouraged to utilize the identity protection services provided by IDScan.net to mitigate potential fraud risks.
